Bangkok (3) - Hua Hin (2) - Koh Samui (2) - Chiangmai (2)
10 days / 9 nights
Limited to 20 Participants
The hidden treasures of Thailand may be new or old, big or small, wet or dry. And all of them make up the astonishing reality of this “Asian Tiger”, home to some of the most delicious cuisine, magnificent temples and delightful river vistas anywhere in the world.
Bangkok, dubbed “Venice of the East” because of its network of klongs (rivers), is where one can visit the gaily decorated Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and the exquisite Emerald Buddha in the Grand Palace complex across the river, find unbelievably sensuous silks at the Jim Thompson Museum shop, and explore the Creative District where contemporary art meets tradition just a stone’s throw from the Oriental Hotel where authors Joseph Conrad, W. Somerset Maugham and others spent countless days writing and drinking.
Nature reigns supreme in Hua Hin, on the Gulf of Thailand a short drive from Bangkok. Exotic flora and fauna may be seen in the seaside park while one may wonder about a beautiful pavilion, built by King Rama V, inside a cave in Hua Hin.
Chiangmai, in the north, is hilltribe country where many ethnic minorities live in primitive mountainside villages. Visit Wat Doi Sutep for a remarkable view overlooking the entire valley. Enjoy the experience of caring for magnificent elephants in the eco-park. Explore waterfalls, rice paddies, local villages and intense jungle.
Arriving in Koh Samui is like experiencing the opening credits of a Fantasy Island episode. Then driving through the laid back town, one is a likely to hear Bob Dylan or Michael Franks as any other music and the scene is so charming you’ll wonder why you didn’t reserve more nights there. The beaches – black sand or white – rival those of any tropical island and the delicious local food has a distinctive Southern (Thai) flavor.
