The following optional tours may be purchased prior to your departure from the USA and operate on a seat-in-coach basis. All optional tour rates are based on a minimum of two passengers.

Beijing
Hutong Half-Day Tour (includes lunch): This tour takes you back to the old days of Beijing. Hutong is the Chinese name for the ancient city alleys and narrow lanes first built in the Yuan Dynasty, where neighborhoods are made up of traditional courtyard-style homes. Ride in an old-fashioned pedicab through the Hutong district during this guided tour. Transfers and lunch are included.

Tibetan Lamasery, Temple of Heaven and Beijing Opera School or Kung Fu School (includes lunch): Now a residence for Tibetan and Mongolian monks, Yonghe Lamasery is a famous 17th century Buddhist temple with a 75 foot high sandalwood Buddha. The Temple of Heaven is one of Beijing’s most extraordinary monuments and includes the Altar of Heaven, the Imperial Heavenly Vault and the spectacular Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, whose intricate interior was constructed without use of a single nail. Gain insight into traditional Chinese arts with a visit to the Beijing Opera School or Kung Fu School. Guided tour includes transfers and lunch.

Beijing Duck Dinner and Acrobatic Show: Sample the most famous cuisine in Beijing. Slices of roast duck with crispy skin are served with scallions and special soybean sauce, then wrapped in wafer-thin pancakes, for a delicious traditional meal. Shanghai

Hongkou (Jewish Heritage) Half-Day Tour: Visit the classic 1930s-era Peace Hotel and roof garden, built by Victor Sasson; see Ohel Rachel Synagogue (now used by the Shanghai Education Commission); visit Ohel Moishe Synagogue, center of an active Jewish community prior to World War ll; visit the Hongkou District, the main sanctuary for 30,000 Jews during the war, where immigrants lived and many opened shops catering to their community; visit a Children’s Palace.

Full Day Zhujiajiao Tour (includes lunch): Drive to the picturesque water town of Zhujiajiao, known for its winding canals, arched stone bridges, and well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture on Great North Street. Zhujiajiao’s quaint winding alleys retain their ancient charm. A highlight of the tour includes a traditional sampan ride on the canals. Transfers and lunch included.

Full Day Suzhou Tour (includes lunch): Transfer to a train station for a scenic train ride to Suzhou. Upon arrival, tour Tiger Hill with its leaning pagoda and the Garden of the Master of Fishing Net. Enjoy a Chinese lunch. In the afternoon, cruise the ancient Grand Canal, as emperors once did. Take a train back to Shanghai (travel by bus if group is 6 or more tour members).

Full Day Hangzhou Tour (includes lunch): Take a train to Hangzhou. On arrival, take a boat ride on scenic West Lake and Inner West Lake, then on to Hua Gang Park. Enjoy a Chinese lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon, tour Ling Yin Temple and Dragon Well Tea Farm. Return to Shanghai by train.
